Slovenian thermal baths

Spas are one of the best known treasures in Slovenia. It seems the country has many thermal waters, and slovenes they have took advantage of it very in a very inteligent way. Prices? Well, if we take in consideration that they are thermal baths, special massage streams, etc...it's cheaper that many similar things I have seen here. 6-8 euros media for entry.
In our case, we used to visit three spas. There were the following:

  • Dolenjske Toplice: The best of this (for me), it was their closed swimmin pool... We used to pay 8 euros for three hours. There were lot of streams, a small swimming pool with veeeeery hot water. There were water massage beds, high streams, short ones...And the best!! An exit to outside from the swimming pool! You can go outside in plein winter, see the steam, behind the stars...You cant pay it with money!
  • Smarjeske Toplice(Im sorry because I cant write the slovene accents). We used to went to Smarjeske in summer. It was a bit older, but great anyway! The enviromment was beautiful: wood, big grass to lie down...It had two open swimming pools, the first, made of wood, very hot (35º) and secondly a little more cold (25º-27º) and it was veeery big. I think we used to pay 6 euros and we could stay all the afternoon.
  • Terme Čatež.I just know its acuatic parka, haha!! Our friend Eva threw by all the slide. I, like Im very fearful, enoyed the most, the swimming pool with ¡waves and hot water!...:-) Perfect!!

Slovenian Coast, a little treasure to discover

I really enjoyed the trip to Piran e Isola. Slovene coast is veery small (46 km,thanks to Juliana for the exact number), but in my opinión it's a real treasure. The villages keep very well their character (except any of them, like Portoroz or Koper, that have grown in a different way, but anyway, nothing to do with mediterranean spanish destruction of the coast:Valencia, Murcia,etc...) and their architecture. You can breathe Adriatic smell mixed with Venecia air (many siecles under Republica domination in the whole zone). There is a lot of restaurants wherever you can eat fish, and you'll find a "holidays in the seaside" enviromment very special.

Beautiful venetian style house in Piran

Ljubljana Market and fresh wood fruits

**************************
I loved Ljubljana Market, the one between river and Cathedral...Thousands of stalls of everything...handcrafts, cakes with movil-oven include! (I'll talk about this another day), sausages, and also the typical stalls where fruit and vegetables are sold. Now it's time of Jabolka Estar, a delicious apple.

And something I love from Slovenia, and of this market (I suppose that any market in this zone of Europe)...the possibility of getting fresh wood fruits...In Spain, the only way to buy the is in a popular department store called "El Corte Inglés" , and uses to be very expensive, it's common you'll have to pay 8 euros for 500 gr of cranberries...

While I were in Slovenia, and while it was the season, I ate tons of cranberries and raspberries....Real paradise for me...

Moreover , may be Slovenia has cranberries superavit, because you can find in supermarket many kinds of juices and nectars, one of the most popular was Fructal.
Oh my god...how delicious!!!

Eslovenos, no sabeis lo que teneis...Slovenes, you dont know the big treasure you have...

Charro country in Ledesma (Salamanca). We had to be content with the acorns :D

Where I live, I must go away by car for 1 hour to get some place where finding pure and green nature and enjoy it.

Ah! The pines between chalets that we have twenty minutes from Valladolid... doesnt count as pure and green nature.
Ay...

Restaurante ABCdarium

Today Im gonna talk about ABCdarium Restaurant, in Rbji Trg (It's a little square next to the river, very easy to find). It was one of our favourites restaurants in Ljubljana. I know many people can think it's nothing special, but truly, I love its menu because it had plates I've never eaten in my life, like Polenta, or Istria pasta.
Prices were neither expensive or nor too much cheap. We used to eat for 9-10 euros each of us, but we dont eat too much :-) They accept students tickets, something common in Slovenia and something I think it's great and I've never seen in Spain.
Ah! According to the Restaurant, it's situated in the Ljubljana's older house... I dont know how true is it, but well, it's interesting...

The summer terrazza:

My favourite plate: Seafood "salad"

Havin a very interesting conversation with the little lobster

*************************************

Worth and housing. Vivienda digna.

I loose all the wishes for get a better country when I see that nobody movilizes against housin speculation. I want you to know which the problem is.

The movement for a worthy housing (www.viviendadigna.org) began loudly. Lot of people went to the first manifestation, almost ten thousand in some cities. Media talked about it and It seemed things went to change...

But, last manifestation has been a big failure: 700 persons in Madrid and 500 in Barcelona. May be the other people has found a house....:-D
Well, no. I cant believe it. My brother has been looking for an appartment in Barcelona since june . He only ask for emancipation with his girlfriend, and he's engineer, he's SUPPOSED to have a good salary and the a good house...Well, this is imposible. They can pay just 600 euros a month, and they only find, for example:
-Things like this
-20 m2 apartments without kitchen: just a microwave and a washingmachine and a caffetiera...Woh! Do you really need anything more for living???

And Im not talking about living in the most fashionable street in Barcelona...Im talking about district like The Carmel (it doesnt have underground, for example)
Im sure many of us know people like my brother, this situation has became something common in the last years.

We have a very big problem in Spain. The main industry is the building industry, it's true, and it's serious. Many people work on it, and many of them are inmigrants. What will happen when bubble explotes?
But returning with the worthy housing, they are playing with a Constitutional Right, but it seems nobody worries about it...
HOUSING IS NOT A BUSSINESS TO MAKE YOU RICH, IS A RIGHT OF EVERYONE.

ps. In other hand, something I've never understood is...Why people takes the Republican Flag everywhere, and every manifestation they go???? It's the same what the manifestation is about...They must take with them the flaaaagg...In my opinion, we should let our political tendences in this kind of manifestation, because we must keep united to fight together and avoid they steal our DIGNITY.

*****************************

Capucchino 0'73 (!!!!!!)
Colacao 0'83
Tes desde 0'71 hasta 1'04
****************************
In Maru's blog, she asked me how much is a coffe in Slovenia (I imagine she asked me this, to remember our President Zapatero :D).

Then, I realised that my first day in Slovenia, we went to Lokal Patriot café, in Novo mesto (i'll talk about it in other post) and took a photo of drinks menu (I keep all the time taking photos...)
Here is the prices proof. I have translated just the most important (more or less)

I know this pic is very bad...

Kava-Coffe 0'63 euro
Kava2-Coffe 2 (Maybe double coffe?) 1'17 euro
Machiato, kava z mlekom, bela kava -Coffe milk in many ways (I think) from 0'63 euro until 0'83euro
Capucchino 0'73 euro (!!!!!!)
Chocolate 0'83euro
Teas from 0'71euro until 1'04euro
********************
UPDATING!!!! I've been told that Slovenia prices are now suffering the horrible
ROUNDING UP!! :(((((((((

Handcrafts shop in Mala Ulica

One meeting day with Expat Novo Mesto girls, they took me to a beaauuutiful handcrafts shop in Ljubljana. It was in a hiding place, I dont know I would have found it if they wouldnt have took me there.

The shop has a lot of material: wood, plastic, necklace beads, fabrics for bags, bottoms, buuuufff....the list would have no end! Everything was kind pretty, very "chic", to make very nice handcrafts. Not the typical school handcrafts that all we have done when we were child (at least in Spain it's this way)

If I found a shop like this one in Spain, well, in Valladolid, I think I'd be a handcrafts fan!
And what's more, this shop has a lot of books about techniques, very interesting! But all they was in slovene or german, so I didnt buy any book..
First time I was in the shop, it was november, and it had a lot of Christmas decoration, really pretty, so I bought some of them, and this is one...

It's just the elf, not the lamp! :D

The shop, I dont remember ist name (what a new thing! :D), but it was in Mala Ulica, that like its name says, if Im not wrong, it's a very small street, between Trubarjeva cesta and Dalmatinova.

Nostalgia

I hope someday I will be able to leave behind the sadness and the deep nostalgia I feel. There is no day I dont remember those times in Slovenia, and think when we will be able to come back...
I miss a lot of things, but almost all, I miss going out and see nature and green trees everywhere I looked.
I miss that winter light. Many spanish or south people say this light get them depressed...Well, I really love this lemon-quince light sun. It was a light between yellow and orange, it hardly warmed up, but it got take me a smile.

I miss my friends Barbara, my little and sweet friends Eva, Tara and Tamara. I miss Duro and his "DOBRO JUTRO PIIIILAR" in the morning, and Sonjia and her cakes...Going Šmarješke Toplice in summer, and Dolenjske Toplice in winter(because it's a closed and warmed swimming pool). Walking by Ljubljana, breathing pure air and the sweet innocence of most of the people.

Maybe there is who thinks Im an idealist. I honestly think that my personality isn't agree with my supposed country (accord to my Spanish Identity Card). The real thing is sometimes I need express my nostalgia, and today is one of those days.

May be one of any beautiful roads we used to walk by...

Kostanj

Very soon it will be chestnut time. You are lucky in Slovenia, you can take almost wherever you want...Here, in Castilla (in the middle of Spain), we must go very far for get a few...or buy it in the supermarket...:(

Last year, I went to take chestnuts to a beautiful place. Expat Novo mesto girls took me there. It was a few kilometres far from Novomesto, I think its name was Borovnica (like the fruit?) or something like that.

But anyway, like I've said, Slovenia is full of good chestnuts, you just have to go out from home and be careful because you can be hit in your head by one of them, hehe...:D

********************************
